Push Notifications
Plantrunner sends push notifications to keep you informed about important events. Notifications work on both iOS and Android via Firebase Cloud Messaging.
Notification types
For field technicians
- Service reminders -- Morning reminders about scheduled routes
- Timesheet reminders -- Prompts to log hours (sent when no hours logged for the day)
For admins
- Employee check-in -- Alert when a technician checks in at a location
- Employee check-out -- Alert when a technician checks out
- Timesheet submitted -- Notification when an employee logs hours
Enabling notifications
Push notifications are requested when you first sign in to the mobile app. If you declined the permission prompt, you can enable notifications in your device settings:
iOS: Settings > Plantrunner > Notifications > Allow Notifications
Android: Settings > Apps > Plantrunner > Notifications > Enable
Notification preferences
You can customize which notifications you receive:
- Go to Settings in the app
- Select Notifications
- Configure:
- Service reminders -- Enable/disable and set reminder time (6-9 AM)
- Timesheet reminders -- Enable/disable, set reminder time, and choose which days
- Admin alerts -- (Admins only) Enable/disable check-in, check-out, and timesheet alerts
Device tokens
Plantrunner registers your device for push notifications when you sign in. If you use multiple devices, each device is registered separately. Signing out removes the device registration.
Troubleshooting
If you're not receiving notifications:
- Check that notifications are enabled in your device settings
- Verify your notification preferences in Plantrunner
- Make sure the app has been opened recently (background restrictions can affect delivery)
- Check that battery optimization isn't preventing the app from receiving notifications (Android)
